2016 Neighborhood Spotlight Communities

Legacy Foundation president and CEO, Carolyn Saxton announces Neighborhood Spotlight Grant Recipients at Legacy Foundation’s 23rd Annual Meeting.

Carolyn Saxton, Legacy Foundation President and CEO, announced the recipients of the 2016 Neighborhood Spotlight grant awards: Griffith and Gary-Emerson.  Each community will receive comprehensive technical assistance from the Indiana Association of Community Economic Development (IACED) and $50,000 in the first year for the cost of a community builder and early action projects.

The Neighborhood Spotlight Program encourages communication and collaboration within neighborhoods with the goal of improving the quality of life for the residents and businesses located in those communities.

Keynote speaker, Antonio Riley, Midwest Regional Administrator, US Department of Housing and Urban Development said, “The Legacy Foundation plays a significant leadership role in addressing the needs of locally economically depressed communities.”  Riley further went on to say that the Legacy Foundation has the support of his office as they move forward with new initiatives and programs designed to help people living in these communities.

Griffith YMCA will be the lead organization for Griffith and Families Anchored in Total Harmony (FAITH) will be the lead organization for the Gary-Emerson neighborhood. Representatives from both communities were recognized at the Foundation’s Annual Meeting.

JP Morgan Chase & Co, Horizon Bank, Peoples Bank and the Northwest Indiana Times were acknowledged for their generous support of the Neighborhood Spotlight program.

The Legacy Foundation is a 501c3 not-for profit organization whose mission is building a culture of philanthropy across generations that will positively transform Lake County.
